1999

Liz had been thrilled with our cruise to Corsica and Sardinia last year and was more than happy to sail to Rome this year.  We set off with Keith and Cilla to sail around the Golfo di Genoa and after they left in St. Margherita Liz and I sailed on our own for the first first time.

As you can see we did get to Rome but because time was pressing we took the train from Punta Ala.  In Rome we met Colin and Anne who sailed back with us to Antibes via Corsica.

The year had started so well and the climax was the wedding of our daughter to Dean at the beginning of June.  As was obvious from the start Dean has turned out to be the son-in –law every father wants for his daughter and she was the most beautiful bride. After that everything went down hill. Five weeks after the wedding Dean was diagnosed with a brain tumour and I fell ill in July with polymyalgia rheumatica. Dean has had the non-malignant tumour removed and all is well while three years on my condition is about spent.

Despite everything we did go sailing in the summer and I recall my visits to the French Doctors and sailing with a 13 month old Elodie

Having put up the spinaker Jonathan got in the dinghy and took this photograph.
